She's never stayed anywhere long. London, then France, then northern Germany. She calls it restlessness. Closer to the truth, she's still looking for where she belongs and hasn't found it, and the songs carry that with them: the same questions, moved from one country to the next.

For a few years she played live. Covers at first, in whatever rooms would have her, then her own material. Eventually she stopped. The stage was never really the point for her. The recording was. She'd rather be alone getting one take right than standing in front of a crowd.

So that's what she does now. She records much more than she releases, a few songs a year, put out whenever one of them is finally done. No plan, no campaign behind it. The songs are about private things, relationships that didn't end cleanly and whatever she can't stop turning over in her head, and she doesn't tidy them up.

She isn't trying to reach everyone. One person, playing a song at the right moment, feeling like it was written for them, that's the part she actually cares about.
